Sea Chen, MD, PhD is a radiation oncologist who has been in several different practice settings, ranging from the very large (Kaiser Permanente in Northern California), to a small independent practice on the outskirts of Chicago involved in the building of a comprehensive community cancer center from the ground up, and most recently as an employed-physician and medical director of a hospital department (Rush Copley Medical Center).
He received his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine, his graduate degree in Biomedical Engineering from Purdue University, and residency training in Radiation Oncology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. As a clinical leader with an entrepreneurial and engineering background, Dr. Chen has a passion for collaborative efforts in process and quality improvement.
As both a physician and engineer, Dr. Chen has co-founded several medical technology startups. One of the most notable ventures was Realize.ai, a medical imaging company that applied AI to diagnostic radiology. At Realize.ai, Dr. Chen played a key role in developing a patented deep-learning technique, which eventually led to the company’s acquisition by the multinational radiology service provider, IntriHealth, in 2018.
Dr. Chen currently leads the AMA Practice Sustainability team’s efforts on physician workforce and professional development and is the clinical leader of the team’s initiatives on Private Practice and the Business of Medicine.
